Becoming a Teacher: My Philosophy on Education When did education start? Do we still need education to function as a society? How long will public education remain a kindergarten through twelfth grade curriculum? The answers to these questions will vary from person to person, but they will all have one common theme: education will and must go on! Education is the key to a progressing society. Education is the only way that knowledge is passed from generation to generation. In this paper I will explain why I wish to teach, my educational goals, and the philosophy that I will use during my teaching career. I never acknowledged the idea of becoming a teacher because I did not think that I would be a good teacher. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that teaching would be the opportune career for me to help people and to use a subject that I have always found interesting and enjoyed all of my life, math. There are many goals that I hope to obtain while teaching. I will be a good listener. I will not only instruct my students, but I also will listen to them. I do not want to be one of those teachers that only teaches and does not care about the students’ interests. To me knowing about the students’ personal lives is part of being a good teacher. I would not ask a student to tell me his/her personal life, but if a student wished to tell me something I would gladly listen. A teacher should not only help students with learning of the subject they are teaching, but they should also teach them life lessons too. I strongly believe, first and foremost, I will teach math, but more importantly, I will teach children. I will do my best to run the classroom in a way that is pleasing to me as well as to the students. I do not believe that students want to learn in an environment in which they consider undesirable. Monday, October 10, 1870 The Gilded Age was a tough time for me and other families to have a life and prosper in. Long hours and low wages were common as owners could find low-cost workers. Without unions, I and the rest of the workers were exposed to extended hours during a time where paying someone overtime did not occur. With limited opportunities workers like me and families had jobs that we struggled with and no hope of getting far in life. During the Gilded Age, there were two social classes, the wealthy and the poor and, unfortunately I was in the poor social class. The Gilded Age had a meaning behind it and I had an idea of what it meant, â€Å"Gilded means covered with a layer of gold, but it also suggests that the glittering surface†¦show more content†¦I was so terrified. All I could think was how I was going to continue working with my finger bleeding and being in so much pain. The other children who were working with me ran and got towels to try and stop the blood and at one point it h ad finally stopped bleeding. I couldn’t wait to go home to my parents. I was so anxious to just get out of this factory and get some rest, it had been a long day full of misery and pain.
